Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Ensures that work station is safe and all safety permits and requirements are obtained before starting a job.
  • Performs variety of installation, repair, and maintenance duties on electrical and instrument equipment and systems.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and electronic malfunctions on various types of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks on both electrical and instrument calibrations.
  • Performs corrective maintenance tasks particularly when concerned with reduced performance/condition or instrument malfunction.
  • Performs approved new electrical installations, inspects and oversees equipment installation and electrical work performed by Contractors.
  • Performs approved Alteration requests.
  • Performs hand over checks.
  • Hands over equipment in safe working order.
  • Documents findings, actions taken and processes work order for close out.
  • Recommends improvements to equipment systems.
  • Performs other tasks as requested by engineer or his designee.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Systems included in the Electrician / Instrumentation Technician scope of responsibility include, but is not limited to:
  • Performs variety of installation, repair, calibration and maintenance duties on electrical and instrument equipment and systems.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and electronic malfunctions on various types of electrical and mechanical equipment; including motor control centers, stand-by generators, electric motors, emergency transfer switches, panel boards, transformers, breakers, lighting fixtures, receptacles, switches, and other industrial electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment, digital systems such as programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), and variable frequency drives.
  • Bends and installs conduit, pulls wire and work on control wiring and equipment, may install supporting equipment such as; pumps, motors, valves piping etc.
  • Uses electrical test equipment such as voltmeters, meggers, amp meters, infrared pyrometers, digital analyzers, frequency generators, calibration test equipment and other specialized test equipment.
  • Installs new instruments installations and calibrations of exciting instrument such as transmitters, scales, gauges, and control valves and any new instruments that are introduce to the Plant in the Future.
  • Basic DCS Overview and understanding Standard operating Procedure of the plant control systems, (Delta V).
  • Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, electrical diagrams and schematics, manufactures instructions and directions.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of building, Operation Plant, Utilities, Solvent Storage, Boilers, and Incinerator, etc.
  • Trains or instructs others in electrical and instrument work and safety.
  • Performs related duties as required but not limited to.
  • Operates office equipment including; computers and printers, etc.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

The Electrical Technician must have completed:

 

  • City and Guilds or Assoc. Tech Degree.
  • Or High school education and 2 BGCSE’s or equivalent with 1 of 5 of following certifications; electronics, electrical, computer technician, controls systems, instrumentation technician, and 5 yrs. demonstrated experience.
  • Or High school education or equivalent and demonstrated in house training in 1 of 5 of the following certifications; electronics, electrical, computer technician, controls systems, instrumentation technician and 10 yrs. demonstrated experience

 

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

 

  • Ability to consistently maintain and repair equipment to as installed conditions and operating intent in supporting maximum availability for production, and therefore the plants ability to make money.
  • Uses training, past history, tables handbooks, manuals, supervisors, and other informed persons and MMS as a source of judgment for assignments.
  • Maintains and constantly upgrades a working understanding of plant production processes, systems, and auxiliaries.
  • Works harmoniously with engineering, technical, production or outside personal and provides a leadership role when requested.
  • Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate some leadership skills.
  • Must display high physical and mental condition, should have no problem lifting 25 kg unassisted.
  • Must display ability to work safely with some supervision.
  • Must display ability to assist in organizing work.
  • Must display ability to take care of tools and instrument test device.

 

Must participate in the “Call Out” Roster and respond in a timely manner and resolve issues when called.
