IT Officer

Job Description

The Information Technology Officer will report to the Director General and will be tasked with the responsibility of coordinating, planning, and leading computer-related activities within the Bahamas Red Cross.

The IT Manager will demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the industry’s best practices and evidence a professional track record of effective technical management, information analysis, and a thorough understanding of computer hardware and software systems.

He/She will help determine the BRC’s IT needs and will be responsible for implementing computer systems to fulfill the organization’s information system requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead large IT projects, including the design and deployment of new IT systems and services
  • Monitor performance of information technology systems to determine cost and productivity levels, and to make recommendations for improving the IT infrastructure
  • Manage and coordinate all IT-related matters including data, wireless communications, mobile technology, telephony, security, and computer hardware and software
  • Trouble-shoot and solve problems related to hardware, software, and network problems
  • Help define IT infrastructure strategy, architecture, and processes
  • Analyse business requirements by partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs
  • Conduct regular system audits
  • Assess vendors and develop test strategies for new hardware and software
  • Monitor daily operations, including server hardware, software, and operating systems.
  • Coordinate technology installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Select and purchase new and replacement hardware and software, when necessary
  • Work with Information Management Officer to ensure security of data, network access and backup systems
  • Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational policy
  • Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in time
  • Audit systems and assess their outcomes
  • Evaluate technology risks in order to develop a network disaster recovery plan and backup procedures
  • Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of proven working experience as an IT Manager or relevant experience
  • Experience leading and managing large IT projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across various technologies
  • Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices
  • Microsoft Systems Administration/System Engineer certification will be an asset

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation
  • Quality management
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Proficient in computer hardware, cabling installation and support, wireless technology applications and interface, and IT security.
  • Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize
