JOB DESCRIPTION: Purchasing and Receiving Manager

REPORTS TO:

General Manager

Operations Manager

1. Manage the company’s day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure that all purchasing/receiving personnel are properly trained and meeting performance standards
2. Locate reliable vendors and suppliers of materials, equipment or supplies, and determine product availability and terms of sales.
3. Determine quantity and timing of deliveries and communicate this information with other management personnel.
4. Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
5. Control purchasing department budgets.
6. Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers.
7. Propose improvements to the current purchasing system that will improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business
8. Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by establishing security procedures and protocols.
9. Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with electronic data system.
10. Use software to monitor upcoming levels of demand and document characteristics of inventory.
11. Maintain records of goods ordered and received and input items into electronic tracking systems. Also train other staff on electronic inventory system when needed.
12. Develop and implement inventory control procedures and best practices.
13. All other duties as required.

Requirements

1. Proven working experience as a purchasing/receiving manager for a minimum of five years
2. Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
3. Negotiation and networking skills
4. Solid decision-making skills
5. Strong leadership capabilities
6. Ability to accurately track inventory and create reports
7. An analytical mind with strong math skills
8. Excellent organizational and planning skills
9. BS degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration is a plus
