Job Description

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Security Officers are responsible for ensuring a safe environment for the residents, employees, or authorised visitors to any properties under their charge. Responsibilities include—but are not limited to—ensuring that the buildings, facilities, and grounds are not breached or vandalised by persons not authorised to be on the compound or by intruders (vandals, breakers, etc.)

The duties of the Security Officer include patrolling and observing the activities of all persons in and around the property. Work involves assessing problems and utilising tact and judgement to ensure swift resolution focused on providing high-quality service to the consumer. The officer is to document and report all incidents and activities that occur on the property during their shift.

Responsibility also includes controlling and monitoring access to the property of all persons with a legitimate reason for being there. The Security Officer is also responsible for ensuring that buildings and facilities are secure and noting any signs of breaches or attempted breaches.

SPECIFIC TASKS

  1. Patrol the property at scheduled intervals to prevent and detect signs of break-ins and vandalism.
  2. Ensure all doors, windows, and gates are properly locked and secured when required.
  3. Ensure that all lights and other electrical items are turned off when not in use.
  4. Answer alarms and investigate any disturbances on the property.
  5. Respond to employees’, residents’, and visitors’ requests for assistance and take the appropriate action as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  6. Monitor and authorise the entrance and departure of all employees, residents, visitors, and other visitors to the property.
  7. Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorised persons, or unusual occurrences.
  8. Call the Police, Fire Department, or Ambulance Department in emergencies, such as fire, the presence of unauthorised persons, or when incidents occur.
  9. Regular patrols of the property should be conducted to deter unlawful entry or prevent incidents from occurring.
  10. Warn persons of rule breaches and evict violators from the property when necessary. Reasonable force may be used if necessary.
  11. Report breaches by employees, residents, or visitors.
  12. Operate metal detectors to screen individuals and prevent the passage of prohibited items in restricted areas.
  13. Assist with the management and monitoring of vehicles on the property.
  14. Prevent unauthorised access to restricted areas.
  15. Perform other duties that are required.
