POSITION SUMMARY
Hospital social workers provide direct services to patients and their families/caregivers
aiming to minimize the negative impacts of illness and hospitalization.

DUTIES INCLUDE:
A hospital social worker’s role is to enhance social and emotional functioning through targeted interventions and the mobilization of services and supports.
Hospital social workers intervene in the context of a patient’s social environments and relationships, recognizing the effects of the psychological, familial, social, economic and
cultural determinants on health and wellbeing.
Hospital social workers are committed to human rights and social justice and advocate for the rights of patients and their families/caregivers, against discrimination, exclusion
and abuse they can sometimes experience.
Hospital social workers focus on patient-centered care and encompass the ability to consider the complexity involved from a psychosocial perspective.
Hospital social workers offer a unique contribution to the hospital system in providing services to meet the multidimensional needs of patients and their families/caregivers.
The hospital social worker liaises with the interdisciplinary teams within the hospital such as Utilization Review, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and more.

EDUCATION:
Baccalaureate Degree, Master’s degree in psychology, Social Behavioral Sciences, or
related field. Previous Social Work or Behavioral Sciences experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Previous Social Work or Behavioral Sciences experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Holds a deep understanding of the psychosocial aspects of illness and health.
