Bahamas Communication Consultant

Job Description

The team: Under the leadership of IDB Country Office Bahamas (CBH) and in collaboration with the Knowledge, Innovation and Communication (KIC) sector, the consultant will provide strategic and technical advice to Country Office Bahamas (CBH) to manage communications and some priority IDB audiences in a timely, efficient and agile fashion, in line with the IDB corporate identity. Ideally, experience on work with communication media, strategic communication and public relations agencies, and international organizations’ communication entities.

What you will do:

  • Support the Country Representative in the coordination, design and implementation of the communications and outreach strategy to convey key IDB messages including preparing press releases, speaking points, and communication pieces. Some areas for facilitation under this function include: project signings, blogs, videos, speeches and talking points, capacity-building and other knowledge events etc. This function requires working collaboratively with all CBH team members and relationship management with select media stakeholders.
  • Monitor mass media and communications content and send a daily report of relevant news to Headquarters.
  • Monitor social networks of interest for the sector or country and gauge the impact of the Bank’s actions.

Communication Strategy and Corporate Image Promotion

  • Prepare, under guidance from the Country Representative and in collaboration with KIC, the communications component of the annual Knowledge, Innovation and Communication plan and monitor its implementation.
  • Liaise with the KIC’s Communications Divisions to implement the IDB’s corporate communications strategy. Tasks include: 1) dissemination of IDB corporate communications actions (dissemination of studies and press releases etc.); 2) collecting and updating institutional and personal local contact data on the main communication media; and coordinating and organizing training and communication activities for CBH staff and other strategic partners.
  • Support CBH efforts to create promotional and mass information material:
  1. Manage the sector’s social media in coordination with KIC and the corresponding policies (AM-325).
  2. Produce the annual report on the implementation of the communication plan and the IDB corporate image in the country, as well as the CONSOC annual report.

Assistance and Advisory

  • Coordinate with KIC to define a communications strategy for both IDB and external events.
  • Ensure that the IDB corporate identity (e.g., logo, motto, etc.) follows the corresponding policies (AM-102) and the brand guidelines at events, publications and other communication products.
  • Keep the Country Representative and CBH staff informed on matters that may affect the IDB or its goals and operations.

Qualifications

Skills you’ll need:

  • Degree/Academic Level & Years of Professional Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, Communications, Marketing or related matters.
  • Languages: English required; Spanish would be a plus.
  • Specialization Areas: Specialization on Corporate Communication and Journalism, with at least 4 years of experience. Team player with responsibility, communications and interaction skills.

Payment and Conditions: Compensation will be determined in accordance with Bank’s policies and procedures. The Bank, pursuant to applicable policies, may contribute toward travel and moving expenses. In addition, candidates must be citizens of an IDB member country.

Visa and Work Permit: The Bank, pursuant to applicable policies, may submit a visa request to the applicable immigration authorities; however, the granting of the visa is at the discretion of the immigration authorities. Notwithstanding, it is the responsibility of the candidate to obtain the necessary visa or work permits required by the authorities of the country(ies) in which the services will be rendered to the Bank. If a candidate cannot obtain a visa or work permit to render services to the Bank, the contractual offer will be rescinded.
