ENVIROMENTAL PROTECTION BIOLOGIST

(PLEASE READ CAREFULLY)

We are seeking to hire a Contractual Environmental Protection Biologist .

THE LUXXURE GRAND RESORT is dedicated to conserving, improving and protecting our natural resources and environment during the course of our development and there after.

The Luxxure Grand Resort is seeking expertise to support habitat protection and restoration initiatives for the waters of The Bahamas.

TLGR engages in the following basic approach in support of these efforts. The Environmental Biologist will advise both the CEO and government regulators on protective measures to ensure sustainability and the protection of marine life. Additionally, The Environmental Biologist must advise contractors. the CEO & government regulators on how the development can be sustainable and how it can be resistant to hurricanes. Projects includes the diversion of surface water and groundwater, dredging, filling or modification of waterways, the discharge of effluent into waterways, utility crossings of streams and other water bodies and more.

The Environmental Biologist MUST PROVIDE written review (10 pages at minimum) commentary articulating Environmental considerations to the Bahamas for this development along with an impact study. When some level of negative impacts are unavoidable, The Environmental Biologist must propose mitigation measures. The Environmental Biologist will also works with partners on habitat restoration projects. Field sampling and investigations must be conducted to support the many listed activities. Most importantly, The Environmental Biologist will advise if the development site is safe and tolerable to hurricanes.

The person selected for this position will participate in meetings with the CEO. The selected person will have to travel to the proposed development site to conduct studies and testing. We will provide transportation via boat to the site for the selected candidate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of principles and methods of marine management; knowledge of environmental and human factors involved in the production, management and cropping of stocks of fishes, weather and hurricanes; some knowledge of standard methods of water analysis; some knowledge of microcomputers; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to conduct and apply statistical procedures necessary for sound conclusions; ability to identify rocks and coral reefs, aquatic insects and aquatic plants.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.S. in Environmental Biology, Biology, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis.
  • Experience in fishery biology and species identification.
  • Experience and knowledge of fish habitat, hurricanes, habitat protection, and habitat restoration in salt waters. Such experience and knowledge in marine habitats is a plus.
  • Experience with habitat restoration techniques and hurricane protection methodologies and management.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and transportation related projects, including the ability to read engineered construction plans.
  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including carrying equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
2. Incumbents in this class must be able to swim.
