Job Description

GBPC ‘s  Environmental and Health and Safety Department (HSE) is seeking an experienced  Environmental Specialist performing environmental assessments and analysis; administering relevant environmental training, performing environmental compliance reporting, assisting with related environmental audits and corrective action plans.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Coordinating and supervising Environmental projects, trainings and activities
  • Creating and sustaining consistency of all environmental programs, policies and procedures
  • Sustaining the development and implementation of the Environmental Management Plan
  • Planning, designing and conducting employee training to promote and increase environmental workplace awareness according to Company’s standard Environmental program
  • Inspecting work areas, facilities and equipment for potential environmental hazards
  • Conducting investigations into environmental releases
  • Setting and monitoring environmental objectives for special projects
  • Assisting in the coordination and execution of environmental audits and ensure all compliance issues are addressed
  • Assisting in developing, implementing and modifying as necessary workplace guidelines and procedures designed to protect the environment employees and the Company.
  • Enhancing knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on the Company’s activities
  • Inputting items for budgetary consideration and evaluates/tracking cost of environmental compliance trainings, projects and activities and
  • Performing other duties and tasks assigned.

Academic/Skill Requirements

  • The Environmental Specialist must have an earned bachelor’s degree in Environmental or a professional certification along with a minimum of five (5) years in the industrial industry with at least one (1) being at the supervisory level.
  • He/she will must have an understanding of computer hardware and software, application knowledge of ISO 14001 standards, EPA and other international environmental compliance standards and codes.
  • He/she must have the ability to work independently or in a team setting harmoniously with all employees providing support as necessary.
  • He/she must have communication (verbal and written) skills and keeps abreast of new and evolving technology in HSE and the electric power industry.
